do you mind if I ask the cost of the chrome? I have a pair of forks that need doing and am looking for someone to do them :)

Take some photo's by a ruler and email them to these guys for a quote:

Replating is expensive but they are good and the cheapest I've found and you can do it all through the post.

Re:

I'll tell you, it was £170 for the frame, and £90 for the forks.

That's for the front head lugs, the fork crown, the fork dropouts and 6" up the rake, and the rear track ends and 6" up the seatstays and chainstays.

The bloke explained that they actually chrome the whole frame and just polish the areas required, as it's easier than having to build jigs to just dip specific parts of the frame.

He said I could go somewhere else that would give me a cheaper quote. But looking at the hetchins frames they do, and the fact that C&G wouldn't recommend anyone else, I'd rather pay a premium and have the job done properly without hassle first time.

Those prices do not seem too bad - i have looked at Mercian and they seem expensive. I did some calculations regarding paint and chrome and it worked out near enough the same to chrome a full frame compared with a bit of chrome and three colour paint.

If you look at Mercians price list, note the added 20% at the the bottom for renovation - and 20% soon adds to the cost.

Thanks,

Richard
