I have a couple of late-80s early-90s sets of shimano MTB cranks I'd need to re-purpose as triple chainsets:-

and wondering if anyone knows a good source of steel or new alloy pattern part rings as anything new shimano 5 bolt seems hard to find or expensive.

I'm always a bit sceptical of used alloy rings as they are usually more worn than they first look in my experience, but used steel rings are probably worth considering as they last ages. - but happy to look at cost-effective sets of either new or used / Shimano or unbranded.

thanks

You may be able to get 110bcd road rings in the size you want.

I used to use spa cycles for stuff like this but not sure Brexit has done any favours for shipping.

good point I will have a look into that.

and round is first choice, but I personally never had any issues riding the later Shimano Biopace rings either.

Thank you both for your replies.

I've not looked yet but I bet there are all sorts of pattern rip offs on Ali express for 5p.

For my go-to shopping and daily bikes I am a fan of steel rings because they obviously just go on and on in comparison - and at my age ;, any weight disadvantage is negligable

Cor - that's an interesting stock - thanks. The two Biopace sets look in great order too, thanks (interesting how they changed those over the years from the more extreme shaped ones to rounder with Biopace SG - but none as extreme as the 'egg rings' that were supplied with Highpath and Cleland bikes I was reading about yesterday).

What looks like a black steel 44 outer-ring might be of interest too, subject to prices. Many thanks 👌

super - yes thanks I'll do that - as I've got some odds and ends but I've run my spares on chainrings right down. For some reason tonnes of cartridge BB's and rear cassettes and chains in my old spares holding buy hardly any rings that fit Shimano 110 BCD. Appreciated - will drop you a PM 👍
