Of the online world, the forums we visit, everyone has their own list based upon what interests them. I wish to ask those that are active in fora, are you the same personality on each forum you use ?

Or is it the characters one comes across on the various fora dictates the approach ?

Here for example what are you in your approach, do the other participants influence how you interact and are you seeing different kinds of overall forum tone wherever you visit ?

I ask, as I perceive such things, one forum I have been on for five years, I regularly battle against Americans, the majority of which proudly state they are right wing, republican and conservative, they get my pinko commie words to chew, for yes, I have been labelled a pinko commie on there. Another forum is dominated by women, it is normally peaceful and people chat without getting snotty with each other, moderators are rarely needed. Here, I perceive, well, I am quite sure yet, but I do believe so far a selection of different people, many of whom I might align with and a lot I won't. Cycling still seems to bring out the alternative living mind and with that the alternative ideals, intellect but softly spoken.

It depends on the nature of the forum.

I don't tend to be asking advice on here so I am usually just talking bola bola in here.

In some other places I am trying to learn about things, or sell things so my presence is mainly practical.

Where it is politics that drives my presence I usually spare the attendees my lame mirth.

If I am studying the content is pretty serious as well.

I don't think it is a case of adopting a different persona or anything, it is just different reasons for being there.

Not so much a different persona as much as what is appropriate to the particular forum.
I spend a lot of time on another bike forum where I say things I wouldn't dream of saying here. John would hit me with a giant banstick.
Kind of like acting differently at work or at home. Same person, different expectations.

Think it is all down to the type of folk on whatever forum you are on. I find this one to be reasonably friendly and focussed on its topic with people into that particular topic. I frequent a few different forums and mod on a busy one and behave totally differently on all of them but that is one of the joys of schizophrenia. :?

i guess we all try to fit in with the demographic of the specific forum

at least thats what i do, you follow other peoples attitudes etc.
even if its subconciously :?

so yeah in a way i do have a persona but its still me, i suppose its me online but following certain boundaries (of which each are different to each website)
different boundaries exsist in life, so adaptability

Same personality, same nickname, unless I have forgotten my account details at sometime and signed up as KeRjY as a backup.
