Fixing a Victorian

The heavy overnight rain brought my vinegar soak up so I only need two water buckets for displacement. The vinegar is removing the paint. I’ve never had that happen before. I wonder if it is enamel or lacquer? It’s chipping off like old lacquer. It comes off easily with daily brass brush scrubbing. The nickel over copper plating kept the frame almost rust free. The only pitting, or any rust for that matter is in three small places on the top tube. One more day of soaking will finish off the rust and what little paint that remains will be sanded. The paint is already scrubbed off the hard to reach places so it should be a snap. The wet scrubbing eliminates lead air born dust. I’ll wet sand what remains. Here are the only rust spots. Is the tube sticking out the top of seat cluster the collet?

Is there absolutely any "witness" off the dimpling showing through on the outside of tube?
That tube fascinates me ! 😁 I kid you not I do think about it! Haha

No, but it’s got double plating on it. More overkill, why not just paint. The plating may have been used as a primer to smooth out sanding markers etc?

Wow that's awesome I'm surprised you can't feel or see it... testament to the quality! I guess when it comes to overkill it's more to sell....kerching!
That seat cluster is so neat no slot no bolt very sleek...tis a thing of beauty 👍

I think the paint was brushed on lacquer that was sanded between coats. Henry Ford used brushed on lacquer that was sanded between coats on his early model t. This was a big and expensive holdup so they invented the paint sprayer. So, if this is right spraying was not in use when this bike was built. Lacquer had the advantage af drying quickly. It’s got areas where the paint is thicker.

Pfftt of course...all hand brushed! More skills !
Jeez I'm so nuts bolts bending stuff orientated I didn't even think about that!
Years ago as an apprentice I did a very high end shopfit at the back Harrods in London. Brief was hand finished high gloss dark royal blue.....the old guys painting it pulled it off...to a standard you'd be very happy with on a modern car!
Your of course going to paint it right ...the old way aren't you? Just kidding ! 😂

Are we saddled up Gentleman? 🧐

Right, one thing bugging me.......can someone explain to me how pressed recesses make things lighter and stronger?

I'm trying so hard to find the answer at the bottom of my glass (which I 'm convinced there is hole in) but scooping material out is surely what it is?

Answers on a postcard please.
