Fixed off roading anyone?

I've done it at Glentress with 42:19 gearing on the blue route

I need stronger legs and needed a second brake.

Line choice was not an issue as I've never been good at that anyway, fat tyres, strong 36 spoke wheels and just plough through obstacles.

A frightening yet exhilirating experience.

I ride now on tamer rooty singletrack on a 50s roadster with baloon tyres and find fixie off road at its best in the snow where traction control is a real blessing :D

I'll never be as mad as Cab though but it is fun as long as you accept the lunacy of it

rode with someone who was on a fixed wheel once.

He was slower riding to the trail

he was slower riding uphill.

he was slower riding downhill.

rubbish.

On the hard work side see the threads on singlespeeding... :D ...don't knock it until you've tried it...

As for dangerous, I tend to agree, I'm just sure that my natural clumsiness will result in disaster.

It is stoopid in pretty much all ways but when you've done it bizarrely you want to do it again

It is really good fun in snow and ice though, seriously

Why would you want to ride an old bike? why would you want to ride off road?
If you need to ask, you wouldn't understand...............

It would be a boring world if we all roode the same thing.........

Russell, you just rode with the wrong fixed rider..........

When world champions are using 'fixies' for XC I will reconsider my assertion that in 99.9% of situations fixed gear is a disadvantage if speed is the concern.

We won our catagory at this years bikefest. 3 X SS and Cab on his fixed.

I'm not daft enough to race on one, but if it's as much fun as my fixed road bikes, that'll do me......

No done serious off roadin on my fixed yet, but done some basic trails and its good fun.

Nothing beats riding fixed in the snow though. Certainly improves your control and puts a huge grin on your face. Cant wait till winter!!

I ride a 69" gear on my road bike, took it on a club ride last week end. Proves challenging riding on the Downs, attacking every climb to keep the gear moving then spinning like a loon down the other side of every hill. Actualy 'tis bloody good fun. Never considered fixed MTB, may have to give it a go.

Unfortunately the local casualty department is quite a way from where I live.
