Fitting Kona P2s for first time - any top tips?

Hey, thanks a lot for the quick answers.

Ah that must be it then, the frame is an old Specialized Rockhopper circa '95. I guess it is for 1" forks - knackers.

Not too worry, I shouldn't have problem getting rid of these P2s as they are brand new and still in their packaging. I might even make a small profit :)

Now to get my hands on some nice 1" rigid forks. I'm using the bike to commute so the sussy forks are just adding unnecessary weight.

I think I will try and find some more threaded forks if I can as I don't want to invest too much more in this bike. Will I have to go down the 2nd route for these?

If you end up with a new fork with and opt to go threaded so you don't need to change your headset, make sure you spin the top compression ring on prior to cutting the steer tube. Once you're finished, spin the ring back off and this will correct any damage you've done to the first threads with a cutting blade or tool. If you don't then you will have a hell of job getting anything to thread properly and will likely smack your head with a hammer out of frustration. (Just make sure you use a steel ring and not a plastic one if that's what your headset came with)

I'm surprised I remember that after hitting my head with a hammer out of frustration.

If you go for a threadless system you will also need to buy a new stem. Ahead stems clamp around the top of the steerer rather than wedging in it. If you can find some one inch project two's they will be threaded!
