Thanks GM.. the 2 fingered SLR Brake levers were launched in 1989 as part of the new XTII groupset, so I'm certainly not going to loose any sleep   and as far as I'm concerned these would have been a logical update and most certainly would have fitted them BITD ... :)

I know...I know..  And how could I even THINK about putting anything else on other than M730 ... Oh!! the incorrect period correctness of it all...

Why would anyone lose sleep over anything, unless they did. Not really my point.

You're going through a lot of trouble, so just thought you were concerned with some of the details; 1988 parts verses 1990 parts being just another small detail, not much unlike all the polishing.

I'm not over concerned if the parts are totally period correct tbh,,, if they are to within a year or so I'll be more than happy,,

The two fingered XTII were available in 1989 from the information I can find,, so not sure where 1990 came from .. ?

As I've said if I had owned this frame BITD from new, I would have upgraded certainly the brake levers.. The 4 fingered brake levers,, imho look damm ugly anyway..

I'm going to build this up as I like,, if its not totally period or catalog spec,, I dont give a fig.. ;)

Just going to ride the hell outta it.. :)

Dude, don't think that was ever in doubt. No one is trying to stop you from building it as you like, after all, it is your frame now. I have pics of it in its original form/build; they'll suffice

So you've posted a pic of the bike as it was when it left the shop... And your point therefore is ?

Thats a nice build but they look like non-period correct valve caps to me! Circa 2007 Conti :?

Dude, you pm me after my first post, on this thread, to settle a couple things. You were nice enough; I respond in kind, and we settle them, but since, you've been snarky in your replies here in public. Why did you bother with the pm? That was rhetorical; I don't care for a response. Roll your eyes at someone else. If you don't get my point, then it's not for you to get.

Hey! I've got an idea, why not put some M950 cranks with V's since I'm sure you would've upgraded to that as soon as it hit the market. While you're at it, get a suspension fork on there, since it was the upgrade to make in the early to mid-ninties. Hell, this bike will be ripping 1200 ft descents in no time...or did I miss something here? Again rhetorical.

I'll see myself out; peace 8)

Hey Si,
Reading through these last few comments as a neutral observer I can't help but think you have got the wrong end of the stick here. I don't think Rob is being critical of your build (it's looking very nice btw) but rather offer constructive advice. Yes it's your bike and you can do as you wish and I'm sure Rob appreciates that fully, but has offered his opinion and asked for clarification regarding the year of the levers you have chosen.
Sometimes things look different on a computor screen to diffferent people, but having dealt with Rob since his arrival here I can say he is one of the good guys and I always take on board his comments regarding bikes of this vintage. In short I dearly like you both and don't want to see you fall out- I might lose sleep over it if you don't!

As for the levers themselves, I have to agree he is 100% right this time. That bike screams 80's with it's lovely slackish angles and that nice high rize stem and comfy saddle. Two finger levers have always looked like a racers part to me and belong on a stretched out skinny 90's bike. Somehow they will just not look right on this beauty. Things like 732 over 730 don't really matter on this build- just different colour lettering really, to the eye they fit in. But the levers? They are going to jar a little IMO.

At the end of the day it's just a bike, and it's your bike to do as you please. I'm just offering an opinion on what will end up a superb looking bike either way.

Si
