I am hoping when this arrives it's not as bad as it looks!! I think the chrome will be beyond saving though.

I suppose the only option is to paint the chain stay, or cover it with some of that self adhesive foil stuff after sanding it smooth?

What model is that? I'm not usually interested in Raleighs, but this one's got something sweet about it. Let's see the 'after' shots when it's a gleaming lump of loveliness. 8)

I am hoping, and I have rolled a dice here I admit I have bought it based on these pics, that it's a Raleigh Castorama team frame from 89 / 90 built by Cyfac.

If not then it's a Raleigh built replica which suits me fine. Hopefully all it needs is a respray and new stickers.

I actually have Thierry Maires race bike from 1990 (Cyfac built Raleigh Castorama team frame)

In comparison to the rest of your stable that looks too small for you Matt. Think you should just pass this onto me as it looks like a perfect fit

In fairness, that has all the possibilities of a top notch build. One glaring difference to any other image i've seen of the genuine Castorama bikes is the gap between seat tube & rear wheel - usually a noticeable gap. Your new purchase has what appears to be a very small gap? Be interesting to see what you decipher as to it's origins once you've got hold of the beast.

Also be very interested to hear about what & where you go for the chrome refinish, couple of projects of my own that need similar surgery as yours.

The wheel isn't fitted properly in the second pic!!
