Finding local trails

Stand with a big bag of sweets and wait for any kids on Kona's to ride past, then ask them where they ride. If not follow them.

Both approaches may result in some tough questioning from the law.

Not many mtb's around (and, in all honesty, there's never been that many Konas anywhere I've lived or ridden - it was one of the reasons I chose the Cinder Cone in '93)..

The local kids already know I mess with bikes and really rate the Wifes DMR

Is that a euphemism?

Ask the kids, in all seriousness. They have a knack of knowing where to ride.

Euphemism... probably. . . the harlot!!...

Saw a lad on a BMX with suspension forks the other day.. looked funky..

Probably be easier if I spin some pedals about the place..... novel idea, wonder if it'll work

didnt realise you still had fields in the south east

Bastard

I have this to play in (if I can rekindle the adventure mojo)..

ScreenShot008.jpg

Northfield Wood, just above Onehouse, head there, there are footpaths leading in. then head off to Finbourgh wood south of there, again loads of footpaths around.

That's a start.

BUT if you drive 30 miles one day North-West than bobs your uncle and you'll even find RetroBikers there.

What ever you do though don't go North-East to the coast

Aye.. my plan is to do that driving thing and cycling with my RB brethren more frequently..
My prime objective, though, is to go places that don't involve driving (£6.30 a gallon of derv is a killer!!...) to gain confidence and fitness... and have a giggle..

Looks like a couple of decent rides in Stanton (15miles away) and Eye (probably about the same in the other direction) on the Discover Suffolk site..

From the Finbourhg woods ther looks to be a nice river to ride down, that'll be good for the fitness part of it.

I assume you know the local 'walking' area on your doorstep though, or have you recently moved there ?

Noone else down your end to car share with ?

Petrol is about the same here (ok checked and it's just recently, i.e. in the apast two weeks, gone over £6 a gallon) and we try and care share or stay local as well, but with the lot around here we also have a damn £2.70 each way bridge tax to pay.
I don't drive, but currently learning, I have the roof rack and bike racks ready :D

If you use Multimap there is an OS map option in the drop down at the top of the map.

Then look for green dotted lines, they are footpaths/bridleways

Here is an example from near me

http://classic.multimap.com/maps/#map=5 ... ln|Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England, LN1 3

Edit: for some reason I can't make the link work, copy and paste the url.

It's called BING now ;) Microsoft bought them, unfortunalty not quite as good on teh OS side of things yet, but I do use it.

Only been here a few months.. just settled into the house, got Chrimbo outta the way, and looking to (ad)venture out... new area... scary
