Interesting debate.
Aye, it has been. Tried to reply to this thread a couple of times, but in true Macretro fashion it seems to have worked itself out in the meantime.

Andy, I think you've summed it up perfectly.

Peebles hydro is on the doorstep  and very nice it is too with a secure room to lock bikes in with you need a porter to access.

Swimming pool and steam/saunas
Food is pretty much ok too :D

Re:

I should be there again, will be in the Borders for Christmas anyway, and will probably be riding retro (just not decided which one yet). As for the debate, I think it would be good to get new people involved but also don't want things getting too big. Most of the rides I've been on with you lot have been decent sized groups, however I think it would lose something if there was masses of people coming along who had no appreciation/interest in retro. Perhaps a couple of "recruitment" rides could be arranged to get a few new folks involved and see how it works out?. Whilst I don't think it should be mandatory to ride retro at every ride it would be good to see mainly retro bikes at the main organised rides throughout the year (for other rides (including this one), not so bothered). :xmas-big-grin:

I'm not quite sure I get where you are coming from Velo.

More people might be nice for some rides, but then, having been on big rides outside of Retrobike, they are pretty shit IMHO. If you want to go on meet-up rides then you can. Indeed, you personally do! But that doesn't mean the two sites have to merge, or that a small retrobike ride is a bad thing.

Let's ask John if he wants to merge the 2 sites? Then we can have more people.

And we could merge with singlecrackworld while we are at it. Even more people then!

In fact, f*ck it. Sticking with mountain biking sites is too cliquey. Lets merge with Facebook and twitter as well, and then we can have lots and lots of people.

That'd be magic.
Thats not what I meant so get off the soapbox and put down the loudhailer. There are people in many areas of mtb who have not heard of retrobike yet do have some interest in old bikes and some still have the odd example. There are a couple of folk from meetup I know who have old kit who just need encouraging to use it. There founding members of old established mtb clubs from BITD I've met through meet up. We are not merging we are spreading the word. Just because rides you've been on are shit does not mean thats the default position for non retrobike events. There are others out there in the world at large who need to herar the word. Recruiting more folk and getting more active participants has got to be a good thing surely !
