FAT Chance 10th Anniversary frameset

Re:

I think its Fair to say, he's got significant wages in that already, and that's just the start price...

I love a Unicorn, but that seems a bit steep even for a mythical beast.

Re:

Lets not forget NOS Chehalis Klein frame/fork/bar stem combos have sold for £4-5.5K. Its actually very cheap in relative terms compared to equivalent condition iconic classic cars of this era. This will probably outlast its next few owners and give many more years of the joys of ownership.

NOS Klein or Fat, its all MaRy BoNkErS...., and if they are paying this for a hand built of the shelf production bikes, special edition or not, they need there heads feeling. Had it been a ONE off, the only one, then maybe, just maybe.

But lets face it, you gotta be wearing a special hat to have bought into the companies Propaganda machine to even consider buying it at this price. Half its start bid MAYBE.

Am I missing the point here- it’s not even the nicest looking Fat

I’d put an Aqua fade well ahead of this

Agreed. Im all for raising awareness, and hope values rise, we are all invested in this thing of ours.

But its a lot to ask to sit it on a wall to look at, if you dont do that and fit components its no longer NOS, and youve done half your money.

It it aint the coolest fat to have for wall art.

Id have Petes Ti on my wall anyday.

Everybody has different tastes, and also different budgets. I love this site but I don’t understand why people have to be so rude and critical.

It’s a lovely frameset and I wish the owner good luck with the sale. :)

completely agree with your sentiment, but was rather hoping this could be a safe place to have an honest and open conversation - without anyone being mildly flamed for commenting

forget the price / forget its NOS all I'm saying is its not "WOOH ....Thats nice I simply have to have it  " as I said perhaps I'm missing the point but with its understated finish its one for the purest and not easily going to turn the head of Joe Public if hung on a wall like an Aqua Fade or even a Lavender one would (perhaps its understated appearance isn't garish enough for me)

its that rude or critical then yeah I'm guilty as charged

but lets stick to peace love and harmony !

Re:

They could have chosen any one from a plethora of iconic high $ bikes to showcase their top groupset but which bike did Shimano choose for their factory display in 1992 ? Thats right, one of these.

They only made around 178 or so of these Anniversary limited editions. They rarely come up for sale. They were all tig welded by IROBOT the legendary FAT CITY torchman. By all accounts these are amazing to ride and the details are what makes them special and collectable imo.

This reminds me of overhearing a tourist’s comment in the Musée d'Orsay once, as we stood staring at Les raboteurs de parquet by Gustave Caillebotte

“ what a crap painting, it looks just like a photo, I could do that on my home PC and it would look better “ I can appreciate the pleasure gained from iconoclastic destruction but there is no accounting for taste.

exactly - An expensive backdrop/prop that didn't steal the limelight

I can almost hear the marketing bods at Shimano saying - "has to be a frame that doesn't over shadow / steal the limelight away from our groupset"

I never questioned the quality - just the paint (Veneer) it was wearing as being unremarkable in comparison to other Fats which are nicer and going back to the first point above would have stolen the limelight away from the Groupset it was wearing
