It seems this forum's preferred protocol is the "dibs" system?

The following expressed an interest chronologically:-

fatandforty subsequently out due to size.
elpedro
raiden subsequently out due to size.
DrJo PM received.
Jaypee PM received.

So by the etiquette of this forum, DrJo has first dibs, JayPee second ??

Have I got that right?

Sounds about right to me. El Pedro might be above me in the queue or may have disqualified himself by lack of PM - we'll send that one for arbitration! ;-)

Re: F.W.Evans/Saracen Conquest 1984 for sale

Ok I'm in.

I'll wait to hear what Dr Jo and El Pedro say (in fairness I think as we're less than 24 hrs after the photos went up he's still still got time to send that pm) but if they're out I'll take it.

If, by any chance, this doesn't get snapped up, then I'd be very pleased to take it off your hands. Guess that makes me third-ish dibs? PM coming your way shortly.

Re: F.W.Evans/Saracen Conquest 1984 for sale

Being a bit of a newbie here, hope I've done it all correctly.

Bit of back-story: I can remember sitting in the school library back in 1983/4 gawping at the Ridgeback ATBs in the Freewheel catalogue when I should have been doing my maths homework. Me and my mates thought they were impossibly exotic and the epitome of cool, having never seen anything like it before, and despairing of our hopelessly rubbish racers and shoppers which we rode everywhere (even in the sea). One of my pals with more affluent parents pestered the hell out of them for a Ridgeback for Christmas. They tried to get one and found they were sold out, but were advised to try F.W. Evans as an alternative, albeit somewhat more expensive, option. Imagine our faces when he arrived at school after Christmas on a gorgeous black Evans 531 ATB. I don't think I've ever really got over it and have had a yearning for one ever since. Like the one up for sale, my mates was mahoosive too. He was very fastidious in taking care of it, cleaning it thoroughly after every outing and keeping it in the dining room at home. Wonder what happened to it...?

Re: F.W.Evans/Saracen Conquest 1984 for sale

Yup, and I think the scans from the Freewheel catalogue later on in the thread are those that we drooled over and committed to memory. Funnily enough, even after more than a quarter of a century I've never actually seen an early Ridgeback - maybe they never made it out as far as the wastelands of far eastern Kent, and by the time I made it to civilisation they had been superseded and consigned to the tip.
