Extracting broken torx disc screw stud

Mmm...have a wheelset where the previous monkey has broken a torx disc bolt in the hub.
Anyone removed one before....would a small extractor do it? What size?
Of course I don't think it would matter running 5/6, but it isn't right is it.

looks like its slightly concave . should be able to drill it out with progressively incremental bits until whats left is easily unwound like a spring

Thanks Perry....can't remember, are they M4? M3?
 
im forever forgetting the m numbers for bolts but im going to say m4 which is the same as bottle bosses . unless anyone knows better
 
dont go too large with the bits , you can never be certain you are in the center . best to err on the side of caution . but it looks concave enough it shouldnt be far off to get close to the size of the remaining bolt . its a bugger when what remains is convex

with a bit of luck the drill will break the bond the bolt has on the hub
 
One thing that might work once you have a decent hole drilled is to then run the drill in reverse as it can often then just unwind the remainder out.
It's surprising how often this works.
