everything is black!

The Metro 6R4 was a Rally car until the class it competed in was banned, the 6R4 then found a home in RallyCross, there are still a few racing! bloody quick cars they are too :D

My opinion:

I think all black bikes look really cheap. Have no idea why and cant justify it but something screams at me "cheap".

Its like black chainset with black rings. These look cheap too.

This might stem from my mate who had an Emmelle back in 1989 that had 200gs on it. It was all black. And it had black components.

It's all fads really. Anodizing, even in black, used to make things more expensive so it became an exclusivity issue to have everything black; even if it was just painted black like Jez's mate's bike.
Now that I'm getting into the retro roadie thing I'm seeing that silver seems " exclusive " nowadays. It looks more ( love this word ) " factory. " The colour of the cognisenti ( sp? ) who want to save all weight for the race machine.

yep jez has it! thats what i mean i remember old halfords bikes with bits on that were crap, like thew old 200 he mentions, it was made of steel and plastic and looked crap. plastic covered steel canti brakes which did not work and weighed a ton. this was at a time when top end bikes were things like manitous and kleins, which looked v light and mint. what i think im trying to get at is, if the retro bikes we like now are all purple and rasta, in fifteen years time retrobikes are all going to be black?......wow i cant wait :cry:

Sounds like a trip to the 'quacks' to get this young retrobikers head sorted . Is this why you sold the black Trimble? I'm trying to finish this with silve parts with a touch of red (red magura, hubs) silver rims,cranks so on. :)

Hmm, just had a think about my prior rigs...
Frame paint and grips aside, I have to say that '93-current, practically every part on my bikes have been one or a combination of the following;
-black
-satin silver
-ploished silver
-hard anodised or ceramic gray

Is it just the smaller aftermarket manufacturers who have ditched their wide variety of shades, because most mainstream parts I've ever owned have fallen into the above categories.
