We got up at 5am, short ride to gaolie in chianti, set off for ride in darkness at 5.50am, they insist on lights and it would be mad to attempt a downhill in the dark.
135km later, 3 rest stops where ate and drank too much ,as it was so good, the 2nd stop was a bit cruel as the next 20 ks were the toughest and done on a belly full of bean stew topped with raw egg.most pushed a bit, traction and too high gearing the problems for most, it was very hilly, you seemed to be either going up or down all the time.
6 of us had one puncture iin 6x135km on rough roads which was remarkable, we met one guy that had 4 puntures on tubs by the first rest stop, that was in 50km.
You have the option of a split and forking off to do the 205km, we stopped at this junction for a brief chat, no Takers for the longer route, it was way too hot.
I puked up 10 km to go(possibly the raw egg)likely to have been heat exhaustion.
Great atmosphere at the finish, we never made the free post race meal , but it looked good.
Merino wool works very well by the way
