Early RockShox help please

Retro Guru
I'm having a sort out of my Nephew's muddy fox with a pair of really stiff rockshox.

I don't know which model they are. On the Rockshox sticker it says:
USA Pat 4971344. They will be from around 96 - 98 I think.

Does anyone know what the model is & have any links to service instructions.
Many Thanks

Get a picture.

Service instuctions for the Judy's and MAG's available that year are in the Gallery&Archive on this site.

Could be a mag series that's lost all it air, hence no spring?
A picture would really help.

EDIT: Quick search of the PAT No throws up these, are these what you have?

They look the same I think

Unscrew the top-caps (at the top of each leg) and you should find a single elastomer in each (about 5-6" long if I recall)

At the bottom of that tube is a hex head bolt which ties the sliders into the legs. Without the elastomers in there the legs should be free to move, so if they're still stuck fast, strip them off and give everything a good clean and re-grease – then put back together again.

Quadras are dead simple inside, but those boots don't keep enough of the crud out so they can seize up if not used for a while or after a wet ride, or even an enthusiastic hose session – but they are easy to strip down so regular maintenance is the key.

Got a couple of pairs of these, and they work fine (for what they are)
