Dynohub wiring question

Dirt Disciple
Hi all, I saved a 1982 Raleigh Superbe from the dump and I’m steadily working through a refurb. I have it rideable and it’s looking better already.

I am looking to get the dynamo working, but electricals aren’t my strongpoint! I am struggling to make sense of the wiring as it is routed through the frame and one end of the wires from the headlight is missing at the dynohub (rear wheel set up). I am wondering whether I’ll find it when tackling the bottom bracket overhaul.

Anyway, my hypothesis on how the wiring was connected up in the factory is attached. Would be very grateful if someone could validate that it will work. Thanks!

I'm not familiar with this type, but almost certainly there is no "earth strap".

The negative may be bolted to the frame and the entire frame and all metal fixtures act as the conductor for the lamp(s).

Aaaah, thanks Woz. The wiring to the front light looks like a hi-fI speaker cable. So I assume one of those wires comes from the +ve terminal on the Dynohub to the headlight (which is missing at the hub end) … and the other goes from the headlight all the way back to the rear light on the mudgard (which is all there). Will go for that and see what happens. Thanks again.

🤞

TBH had a little giggle about "earth strap".

The tyres would need to be made of metal or you could only ride as far as the length of an earth cable ;)
