Dynatech Diablo STX

I always had a soft spot for the later Dynatechs. I think I've seen this one relisted few times before. 150 seems a bit high considering it's kitted out with STX, and the working condition of the drivetrain's going to be a bit of a lottery.

As did I. The UGLI's are probably worth as much as the frame itself, I suppose. The listing, overall, is a bit vague. These also came with a Ti bar, as well, if I remember correctly.

I've spoken to this seller last time he had it advertised. The forks have circular brake bosses and are magnetic - he checked for me- so are NOT titanium, though he's still claiming they are.

Ahh, that's interesting. I was not aware that UGLI's also came in steel. That would obviously make the bike being sold above less valuable. Anybody know the story of the UGLI's, and steel / Ti dichotomy?

From what I've read after scouring the web for info on Raleigh UGLI forks, it seems they made 2 versions,

1. Alloy crown and dropouts, steel steerer and blades, with welded on circular canti bosses and a weight of approx. 900 grams

2. Alloy crown and dropouts, titanium blades, steerer? not sure (but I have a feeling they were steel), square folded sheet type canti bosses that were riveted in place and a weight of approx. 700- 750 grams

I haven't actually got my hands on a pair of either version to be 100% sure the above is totally accurate.

You know what, I've just bought this bike through gumtree (I was interested to find this thread after getting it back home and doing some research on it!). It was bought to satisfy the criteria in my wanted post here viewtopic.php?f=3&t=290635&p=2179832#p2179832 and as such it looks like it's going to do the job just fine.

It's going to be living away from me in the north east for a couple more weeks now before I get back up again to tune it up, fit the odd upgrade and ride it properly. I've only had time to take the mudguards off and fit my SPDs so far. First impressions are really good. It's the only properly retro bike I've had in the last few years and spinning it up and down the block it's a nice ride, nice and lively feel. The UGLI fork is very distinctive. The components are actually in excellent order: full STX drivetrain all in great condition (still nice and shiny), the wheels are nothing too special but are also STX hubbed and are true and smooth. The STIs have already been swapped for modern cheapish ones but since they have V levers I'll probably switch the STX cantis for a spare set of XT V brakes I've got on my hands.

Will probably update when I have some more time to spend on it but for anyone who was interested in it just ask if you have any questions.

I had this exact model BITD, the STX had the steel UGLIs, they didn't go to Ti until the LX which was the next model up (that my Dad has incidentally).

I too own a pair of ULGIs from the Diablo STX - definitely steel, a nice feel to them, although the flex when braking hard on the front cantis looks a bit disconcerting!

I'm glad somebody from here got the bike in the end. How much did it sell for, if you don't mind me asking?
