dyna-tech diablo ti/crmo lugged frame

Yeh all my mates rode these back in the day. They all broke or were sent back because the tubes popped out the lugs.

Cheap titanium with seams - thats why the covered them with a decal sheet (thats why they have whacky colours).

I thought from a cosmetic pov - these looked brilliant.

Funny old world, I have had 2 road and 2 mountain and (touch wood) only one has come unbonded, and as that was a down tube shifter boss I cannot really complain. Reputations account for a lot!

The Ti Raleigh used was 'commercially pure' i.e. they only alloying elements were those that were there as a result of the manufacturing process, rather than by design. The tubes were indeed seam welded, rolled from sheet and plain guage. This was the reason for the price, the titanium used was in no way 'inferior'. It had a fatigue life comparble with steel, plus many of the really nice features of Ti, such as the comfortable ride and corrosion resistance. Lugs on those frames are aluminuim castings.
