Ok, got around to taking pics of my (distinctly unoriginal / messed with) version of this...
Probably not worth a full post of its own, but looking at it quite a lot is original - all drive train apart from chainset, front mech and chain, front wheel, rear hub (rear wheel rebuilt)
The kevlar versions of the Marin tyres wore out really quickly, and i decided to go with a new stem and swept bars (still not sure why i went for that colour though).
To tell a story, this was a insurance replacement for a Marin Muirwoods from the same year (94) which was a birthday present in my teens. I was lucky enough to live just down the road from the UK importer in Hastings, and they sold off ex demos / shop soiled etc bikes at cheap prices cash in hand. So the Muirwoods was my first proper bike, was loved and upgraded for 18 months or so until it was pinched out of the garage at home. Insurance claim went in to replace it, for the cost of replacing it along with the upgrades - so i went back up the hill and got this, which was a big jump up in terms of quality and components. As mentioned earlier, the ride is just beautiful, steel bikes like this simply aren't available from big firms like Marin anymore, even in 94 a lot of their range was alu. Problem was, I only had it for a few weeks before i went of to university, and not wanting to lose another bike this stayed back home, sitting in the garage doing nothing more than raising my folks' insurance premiums - much to the chagrin of my dad...
So it was that the upgrades, and the stickers which came out of an old issue of MBUK most likely, were occasional and poorly thought out...
Anyway, here are some pictures
