Drop Bar conversion

I am thinking of getting my old 87 Saracen Trekker( front and rear u brakes) back to a ridable state

thinking of running drops does anyone know if road levers are compatible with u brakes?

You should be OK, but you may end up running the pads fairly close.

Road levers with V's or low-profile cantis is not advisable.

I have an old 80's Kuwahara MTB which had drops and a U-Brake and works fine with standard shimano 105 brake levers.

An older style mid- profile canti would be preferable on the front

I've built loads of drop handle bar bikes with 26" wheels and never had any probs using road levers with all manner of brakes from U-brake to cable operated disk brakes.
