Down tube lever issue .No pip .

I have a frame that has no pip brazed on that would stop the lever clamp sliding when the cables are under tension .
I thought i had tightened the bolt enough to stop the clamp moving... but no... and some movement and subsequent paint loss occurred . . The only up side been the loss was on the underside of the tube . colour match nail varnish to the rescue 8) .

Other than tape on the tube is there any other method of stopping the levers sliding . I fear tightening the clamp more, will only further damage the paint work .

Any ideas welcome .

Fibregrip?
(The stuff they use to reduce clamp torque without getting slippage on Carbon Fibre bars and stems etc.)

I once drilled a small hole in the underside of a down tube and fitted a small self-tapper screw. Worked a treat. However, this was on a work/winter bike so on a 'pride and joy' bike you may consider it a bit of butchery..................

Drilling a Hetchins frame ..... a bit harsh .

Should of had a pip brazed on when i had it refurbed...lesson learnt....

Cloth tape ? maybe the only way .

Or you could find the current equivalent of that^^^^

Interesting . I already use it to good effect on an alloy seat post into a titanium frame to stop movement . Sp is the right size and so is the clamp . Copper slip did not work at all in this case . Could be the solution .
Thank you all for your idea's....pip pip....

Here's a tip from Classic Lightweights. Coat the inside of the lever band with contact adhesive - Evo Stick or similar (make sure it's clean beforehand; wipe with meths or something) allow adhesive to thoroughly dry, then fit. I had a similar problems with my Hanlon and this worked like magic without having to overtighten the band.

Nightmare...... back in the 70's we tried all sorts of tricks, tape, glue, bending the metal inwards, bending it backwards to increase the "trip action", putting a small dent in the frame with a centre punch, driling and using a self tapper (filed down).

Best plan was to try and bend the band "prongs" or use a different set of down tube shifters......

What shifters are you using?
