Double build: Zaskar and P7 RS

They were dirt cheap- Chinese classic of eBay! Pedals are the same ones, do look darker in that photo though.

The zaskar should be done, though I picked up a pair of answer manitou comps I'd like to put on, so I'm half on the lookout for a colourful threaded headset... and then I'd need a stem extender to keep the rest of the stuff in there. Might be easier to find a threadless crown. Kind of want to add USA forks to the USA frame though... im trying not to rush these things!

Yes they do look alot darker in this pic so i was surprised when you said they were the same pedals ..

So your not 100% satisfied with the Zaskar then .
The manitou's sound great and a nice threadless crown would be great with appropriate headset ..

So it would seem you've got other idea's regards the forks so i'd suggest you mull things over and do a little research before parting with any more pennies ..

Ideally I'd find a way to do it without spending any pennies! I love the look of rc35's but more so on the orange- will have a look at how the manitous look and wonder if a long headset bung would allow me to use a threaded steerer in a threadless headset? Probably a bad idea- I've read about people who brass soldered over threaded steerers to improve the strength. I doubt I'll so anything right away so will keep an eye out for a threadless crown while I enjoy riding it as is!

Just to give an idea of how it would look with the manitous:

Pretty right?! Upon closer inspection I think the way around this without finding a threadless crown/steerer is threaded headset and quill stem adapter. I have a threaded headset, but it's nowhere near as nice as the green one I have in... Not sure I want to go down the threaded route either. Long game!

I should of guessed you'd be out for a cheap solution regarding the forks which i can't fault you for and yes of course try the manitous out as you just may be happy with the idea and the Rc35s do look good but some how i just can't imagine them looking right tbh but it won't be the 1st time i've been proved wrong ..

A long headset bung just may do the job but when it comes to safety i wouldn't go down that route again as last time the steering went a bit pear shaped after hit a small pot hole ..

Ignore my original comment regards the forks as i think my head is some where else atm so yes now i see the manitou's i'm not sure which i prefer although they do look more chunky compared to the pace but i still wouldn't take chances with the steering so a bit more pondering on the set up is required me thinks ..

I like the chunkiness! My other option would be to revamp and use the GT quill stem I have- would need tarting up with some powder coat or paint but pretty sure it would tie in nicely. Of course, that is old style handlebar diameter, so another problem occurs where another is solved!

The more i look at them the more suited they seem and yes the old GTquill would suit it nicely once tarted up of course but as for the bars sorry i'm quite attached to mine atm otherwise i'd let you have them for the cost of postage ..

Ha, Ill keep an eye out for a set of colourful bars on the cheap just in case- Im more inclined to hold out for a threadless steerer- ebay confirms they do exist so...

In other news the first ride out since tweaking gears went smoothly(ish- minor tweaks required) yesterday. I now have some nicer 7 speed gripshifts, so in time I may well swap to a wide range 7 speed rear. Nothing happening right away though... probably!

Their use to be lots of bars on ebay that would of fitted and yes the threadless steerers do exist as i was looking at some on ebay over 12 months ago ..

Oh good i'm glad to see you finally got a ride out even if their are a few minor niggles at least your on the right track again ..

So you manged to sort out some better grip shifts well that can only improve matters and a wide range 7 speed will allow more choice of terrain to be ridden ;) ..
