Double build: Zaskar and P7 RS

Black and orange decals on the P7 should look okay imo as they shouldn't really stand out that much and slightly gutted to see you'll be selling it on but if needs must then that's understandable ..

The Zaskar is looking better for the polish tbh although i thought it looked alright as it was your Dad is sorting you some washer wotits then erm sounds like your dad is quite handy at diy then 8) .

So is that a noodle your after for the brakes then and green tyres mm are they completely green or just the tread although i think either look should suit well tbh and i can't see any issue with having miss matched wheels although i kinda like them as a matching pair but if you can't sort the front then you've not really got much of a choice but with the rainbow effect you've got already i can't see odd wheels looking to much out of place and i'm happy to see you got a part refund as that helps lessen the disappointment ;) ..

Oh good! i'm glad to see the rain as given up at your end at least ;) .
I'm afraid the family situation won't start to feel better until next wednesday has passed but we'll get their given plenty of time and thankyou very much for your concern as it's really well appreciated ..

Needs mustn't really- My wife wants me to sell it ('noone needs 4 bikes!') but if I can limit the number of bikes on view to no greater than 2 it'll be fine! Talking of which your earlier post settled an argument of sorts there- wife claimed nope above the age of ten would find my bike cool. Assuming you are over ten I win!

Dad is handy- ex toolmaker/fitter so he has the know-how... useful- he made the elastomers for the forks too. Tyres on the zaskar are all green slicks- will see how they turn out. Ha a pop at the wheel- fixed half of the buckle issue, will think on for the other bit. I'll probably just try it out...

Right, off out for a ride!

The fun was shortlived- seat post swinging around madly so had to return home... new shim on order!

Well What can i say mate as the other week you were telling me to make more room to fit more bikes in  but now it looks like i'll end up with more than you  ..

Well I'm glad to confirm i've helped settle an argument between you and your Mrs because after the end of this year i'll be looking into the likes of AXA and Aviva car insurance for those over a certain age so yes i am a bit over ten years of age and i do find the bike looks 8) ;) ..

Yes ex toolmakers are very good indeed at making things that you or i would struggle to create so your very lucky to have a dad like that especially one that will help you out as their not many like that these days , any way i take it your dad made a good job of the fork elastomers by the looks of it 8) ..

Good to see you've sorted the worst of the wheel buckle so maybe you'll manage to sort the rest of the wheel out after you've slepted on the issue ..

Green slicks wouldn't be my 1st choice of tyres but i've got a hunch they'll fit in withthe scheme of colours very nicely indeed and that saddle spining around is really annoying as i was looking forward to the ride review :( ..

Pink decals should look great well that's my initial thoughts on the matter so we shall see when their on ;) ..

Ha, with me will all depend on how much I can squeeze into my cellar, which is already chock full of my other geek hobby! Frame might be a little small for me too- not sure on that yet, it's a size down from my old one although didn't feel too bad yesterday, other than smaller than I'm used to obviosuly.

We shall see... vague plan is to strip my roadified p7 and find an rc200 to transfer the bits over to at some point. On the nickel p7 glad just to have it almost setup again- if I keep it I'll do a little more to it in terms of a couple of splashes of colour, if it goes will stay as is.

With the wheel I've never fixed a mag before- expect if I could rig it up and bend slightly over for a day it would stay- I think the problem was more a kink in the braking surface though so will see how at holds after I tweaked it out. Might be another job for the old man tbh...

Green tyres, pink decals... it's all part of the so bad it's good colour scheme! Hoping that it rides well enough to be my daily commute though the nastier months, although wonder if I'd be better off with disc brakes in the regular wet weather here. Tbh I'm just enjoying rediscovering an old hobby of pissing about with bikes once again.

Re:

What's a cellar ? , i've never had one at any place where i have lived over the years but any way it seems to me like you need some more shelves and hanging brackets in yours in order to get things a bit more tidy unless you've already been down that route before .
Well just tell yourself that small is beautiful but honestly unless you can ride without being cramped up on a bike then it's not good for your health as i've been their before and even though i'd put a longer stem and seat stem it didn't feel right and just left me with severe backache so if it's comfy and you can find room for it then it's a keeper ;) .

I like your plan of moving your parts over from your roadiefied P7 to an Rc 200 "lush" so yes i'm loving that idea 8) ..
So yes i don't blame you not wanting to do any extra to the nickel P7 if you decide to move it on as that will just a loss to you in the long run how ever if you do keep it then maybe adding more bright colours would be a nice idea so maybe a bright green or yellow although white would look nice but we both know white doesn't fair well ..

I've never owned mag wheels so unfortunately i couldn't advise you on repairs although i would be tempted to use some heat to the damaged area before bending it back but theirs a good chance that would actually weaken the rim so maybe asking your dad for advice or if he could repair it for you would be the best policy before tackling it yourself ..

Well disc brakes would get you past the rim issue plus their suppose to be better than Vs and would probably serve you better through the autumn and winter if your to use the bike as a commuter and yes the i think about it the more i like the idea of pink decals and green tyres so i can't wait to see that happen tbh ;) ..

Yes i miss tinkering with bikes very much so but i'm really happy for you knowing you've re discovered the joy of bike tinkering again and i can't wait to get my fingers dirty doing the bikes again myself one day ..

Yeah, cellar has been well and truly sorted before- I had a flood down there a few years back (burst pipe rather than likely to happen again style) and had a mate do a great job of fitting out for purpose- I do music down there. Will figure out the best way of hanging two bikes in there- I like bikes so happy for them to be art when not riding, just need to organise around them.

Need a few decent rides on the p7 before deciding on size- it's a 17 inch and I'm 5 10" so it should work. I'm used to riding the next size up though, so yesterday's 20 minutes or so didn't tell me much. I was thinking either orange cables and seat on the p7 or a more subtle matchup of the colours in the dean stem.

Will do some research on the mag if it needs more work... I prefer matching wheels but really anything goes on this one- and I do have a nice Hadley GT front hub which seems a shame not to be using. Will mess about with ideas...

Yep! i had a feeling you just may of been down that tidying up in the cellar before but thought it may be worth a mention and flooding in the cellar is never a great place to get to but yes if you can hang your bikes high up on the walls or from the ceiling it should help with the room issue although i couldn't keep a bike as just art as i'd find that really frustrating ..

Yes you need to discover how the bike fully feels on long or short journeys and going up and down hills and on varying conditions so it may take a while although my wife has a1998 17" Kona Lava dome which i've ridden a few times and find it a nice fit so just be patient and see how you get on with it ..

A subtle match up of the colours of the Dean stem sounds great to me mate as the orange cable and saddle scenario is nice but has been done quite alot on orange bikes ..

Yes you just mull over the possibilities with the front wheel as you need time to imagine how each idea will look otherwise you'll find yourself changing your mind after completing your 1st setup ..

It's only art between rides! Just done some tidying downstairs and can definitely make space - also have a corridor down to it that I can fit another in. I just need to make sure I only have the one in the hall else I'll be pressurised to sell- out of sight, out of mind!

Agree on the orange- it's been done plenty. Nice look though but I'll stick to plan A (colour matching the dean) to begin with. Anyways, shim will be here early next week so will try again and do some work rides on it to get a feel initially.

Hoping last bits for the zaskar arrive in the week too...
