Double build: Zaskar and P7 RS

Aiy, cheers!

Less happy news is that the screw on 6 speed seems to be seized on- at least it has rounded the removal tool as opposed to removing it. Idk- buy cheap, buy twice perhaps? At present though I have a rear wheel with a seized cog and a buckled front. Annoying!

Buckled front !! now that's not good at all .
It seems like the locked freewheel needs a good soaking and unfortunately cheap tools do have their quality issues as you have just found out although some times you can fall really lucky and it can last years but that's the chance you take when buying cheap hence why some times buying second hand works out the better deal ..

The front isn't awful but arrived buckled. I wd40'd and heavily olid the rear last night, doubt it will be enough to get it off tbh. Might have to take to the shop, which so far I've avoided doing on all builds... Maybe ill try another tool first.

It's annoying though, and so far haven't been looking at the zaskar funny in a sell me type way... Maybe that would be a better bet to lose than the orange if one has to go.

With regards to clear coat for the coming months, you could just use Vaseline on frame to protect it, it's what a lot of classic car owners do with the chrome work on their cars. I think gt85 would also offer protection for your frame. Just ideas for you instead of clear coat.

Well i had a front wheel arrive slightly buckled last year which isn't to bad really but still annoying
when i know the member who sent it assured me it was properly checked to make sure all was well before sending and he's always been upfront and honest so it could only be down to the courier service messing it up ..

You be careful using other tools or you'll cause further unwanted damage ..
I don't see why you couldn't sell the Zaskar if you feel that way inclined as it's always an option worth considering ..

Yeah, I think one or two bikes might have to go in the medium term- looks like we are going to be moving house so will depend on where we find. Incidentally, the last place we looked at was a retro race guys place- 2 sheds with 30 bikes and a complete workshop in! Wonder if he's on here? Anyway, bikes kept will depend on future space- the pace is a keeper and I suspect the maxlight is too, more because it has lovely bits on it which I'd switch over to different frame (still eyeing an rc200) if one ever came up.

Meanwhile I've come up with something of a plan on the zaskar- I have an 8 speed spoked rear and the original GT/Hadley hubbed front which I'll stick on while I try and fix the issues with front and rear mags. If I can sort the mag I'll switch over to the wide range 7, if not I'll stick with the 8 spd and will probably look at swapping gripshifts for something a little less chunky. I'll probably need a new chain meanwhile...

Now that will be a shame getting rid of a couple of bikes if you have to and although it pains me to say it you might have to do it sooner rather than later as moving home either takes along time or suddenly you find yourself in a rush due to completion dates being rushed through by the other party as my last two moves were like that and it's no fun at all suddenly being in the position of having to quickly make choices regards what has to go ..

Well if you do go after the retro racers place will he be leaving both sheds or not as the previous move we made to the previous address we uprooted a shed from the previous address to that although that was split between a friend and a son as we didn't have room for it at the new address and i wish i still had that shed although being a shared garden it probably would cause a dispute at 10x6 ..

Well at least you've made your choice of what bikes to keep which is never easy unless you've got a favourite so the Pace and Maxlight are being kept well at least the Pace is for a while as the Max is just being a donor bike by the looks of it although you shouldn't really be considering another Pace until you've moved as it will just cloud your judgement over the move ..

The Zaskar will look great if you can sort the mags out for it and i wouldn't really bother over sorting the gears out for it just yet unless your planning on using it in the mean while as that could throw up other dilemmas and tinkering with that could cause unwanted disputes with your OH if she thinks your not paying enough attention to the move so tread carefully ..

Ha, no my wife is pretty relaxed as long as there is only one bike upstairs! Couldn't help myself so had a play this morning- mags are off (boo!) and will be repaired, meanwhile I've got spokeys on and it looks... OK! (Prefer the mags, but meanwhile it can be ridden.)

Think I've found an issue effecting the gearing too- it has an old frame saver type mech hanger which appears to be made from cheese. Not sure it is fit for purpose.

Anyhow, hear's how it looks:

The mags set the rest of it off imho so they will go back on at some point...
