Fitted some Avid Ti brakes to the Roadrat yesterday. They all fitted nicely to a Jamis I'm building for the Mrs but when I slid them on the bosses, it's like the pin didn't line up properly. The fronts I managed to get on. The rear, I tried one and struggled then like a dick I tried forcing one on but then crack, the guts of the brake have cracked now. This is on a £50 + vee brake :x Could it be a manufacturer flaw. I'm a pretty good mechanic and build all my own bikes so have done this a million times with no hassle...

The answer is no. Not all studs are created equal.

I use Arch Supreme and the tolerance on the bearing that fits onto the stud is very tight. The same brakes fit on some frames but not on others.

If they don't go in smoothly the first time, don't force it. Just pick up some fine wet sand paper, wrap the post in the sand paper and spin about 100 turns, that usually takes care of it.
