DiamondBack Apex 1991???????????????????????????????????????

i'm pretty sure this is an alternate-colour 1991.
I'm thinking this might be most plausible.

The brochure only lists one colour - but I guess an option for other markets, or an import.

The font of the decals, and the kit (DX groupset, T-bone stem) style of forks seems around that time. Earlier and the forks were more tapered, earlier still and they were straight blade, taper forks. Plus they switched from Tange frames to True Temper around 90, didn't they?

black Biopace decals and the width of those cantis makes it around 1990/91.

Not sure about 90, but 91 Apex's didn't come stock with biopace. The Ascent and below did, in 91, but Ascent EX and above just had round rings.

I was looking at the catalogue bike - didnt even notice the copyright dates of 1990.

the actual bike under discussion looks like a 1992/93 model - the crankset could have been manufactured in 1990 and waiting in the parts bin till assembly time...

:D :D :D

Scanned a copy of the '92 Ascent to show the frame design.
Unlikely the higher spec Apex would still have the older frame cabling runs.

So a 1991 import (?) would seem best guess. You seem to have a rare beast there

If the paintwork is in reasonable nick, keep it as is - might be quite a rare thing!

New York sticker. Could be a false lead but who knows?
