Depressed

Not all bike shops are equal, where I used to work I've never witnessed them not get out a seized seatpin or bottom bracket. technique is 9 tenths of it.
I'm only a 9 stone weakling yet I've got b/b's in or out of frames that much larger guys couldnt shift.
Keep at it & hats off to Royce by the sounds of it, without there 6pin tool a regular bicycle peg spanner will never be any use tbh.

Re:

We'll , picked up the frames today.

To say I am upset is an understatement. The Royce BB was completely trashed , and still in place , one side has been ground off , and various bits of welding done to it. But still it remained. It doesn't turn now either.

The bracket on the GT is just rounded off and nothing to get a grip on.

Bike man tells me ( smugly ) that these old rusty frames are just scrap , and that the bottom brackets will never come out.

20mins at home with a lump hammer , big screwdriver and a hacksaw and the Marin bracket is out , but what was left of the Royce bracket is now just lumps of metal. I don't think I've damaged the threads , but I will need to have it chased out.

I cannot for the life of me get the GT bracket to budge , I've managed to get the axle out , but the cups won't move , I've tried chipping them away , nothing works.

If I can get the hardened steel bearing cups out , then I can saw through the bottom bracket casing , but my hacksaw isn't touching the hardened steel.

Got a headache now , will attack it again tomorrow.

Really annoyed , never going back to that bike shop.

Have you tried taking it to a car or motorcycle garage, maybe one with acetylene.

I worked in a garage for ten years and used to get all kinds of strange jobs brought in and I always tried to help.

Re:

I don't want to kill the paint on the GT.

The marin would have been ok with heat as it's being powder coated , but it's put now.

I'll have another look tomorrow.
