Damn otters

Old School Grand Master
At st peters brewery in suffolk there is a lovely moat round a monastic building that used to be full of carp....big ones that you could feed etc....

The fish had lived happily in the moat for over 600 years,,,,same strain not same fish....

They have been wiped out completely by otters that were released into the area by a damn fool with no licence to do so.....

they are systematically wiping out fish en-masse.... :x :x

Ponds in gardens rivers lakes.....they do not take a fish for food but kill unreservedly like a fox in a hen house...I have seen 14lb bream with only one bite....dead.....40lb carp that are sometimes over 50 years old themselves...dead....again one bite......tench weighing 9lb dead....one bite.......bloody things :x :x

They died out for a reason....lack of food.....they get rereleased by uneducated "animal rights activists" etc...these fools know nothing of local ecology etc...like when the idiots released mink and in their ignorance wiped out our native water vole in most of the broads :x

There are a good quantity of fish in the broads because they have not been targeted by any species for near 100 years...otters are most welcome there..but they are indiscriminate killers......

They climb over fences and get into private lakes and have wiped out peoples entire businesses in a few weeks..thousands of pounds worth of fish in peoples fisheries......people I know have been pushed close to bankruptcy by damn otter while the righteous activist etc sits in his cosy home and is oblivious to the damage being done....

rant over....

It's not the otters fault he's being inappropriately released though..

However.. if he's doing so much damage, someone needs to do some control.

I like bunnies too.. but unchecked they wreak havoc so have no qualms at all in shooting, ferreting or sending the dogs after them.

Correct. But the control must be done correctly unlike some of the badger baiting i've seen which is country folk having 'fun'

Badgers are another tale entirely... they are out of control in parts of Suffolk and seem to not have a decent method of control..

I don't know whether there is an acceptable side to the 'sport' of baiting, I've only encountered stuff that I wouldn't want any part of..

A lot of those involved in these activities are not 'country folk' at all. Just ignorant and cruel people.

Indeed..

In fact, I've encountered a lot of wannabe country folk behaving most inappropriately in the name of fieldsport...
Those pricks ruin it for the genuine majority..

otters are a damn nuisance...they are ok in the big river environment etc....and in large lakes where the fish have a chance but not when released in a small river environment.....or a small lake....they will clean it entirely of all life in a startlingly short time.....

I know of gamekeepers who use "mink" traps and crayfish nets.....

It is mainly the otters cuddly image created by townies.....like foxes as well....oh cuddly mr fox......oh tarka the otter...... :D

when an otter gets into your garden pond because he is starving after some total w***** has released him in a stream and he cant find anymore food....and you wake up to find all your pet fish and koi carp etc dead with almost no marks on them you will not find him so cuddly anymore

They need to be controlled and knocked back to areas where they cause no problems.....

Yes you can otter fence your lake yes....but that costs thousands and some people just cant afford to do it....

There are lakes where some idiot has gone and knocked the fence down in the night around lakes to let the otters in.....why o why

eventually they will starve and die out again....that is cruel also...brought about by the so called animal lovers...

In my experience 70% of the problems caused in the countryside like the above are caused by incomers and ignorant townies......they think they can leave the town for the weekend and stick their noses into other peoples business and then go home and feel all righteous...... :x :x
