Will let you know- we're doing the red route next weekend. I wouldn't bother with the green or blue- I think it's mainly fire road for noobs and families. Gil recomended that we started at Dixons Hollow and just did the second half as it's the best bit.

Hi,I go there quite regularly, don't bother with the green or blue routes they are just short fire road designed for families. The red route is fun and quite demanding for all abilites, start at either main car park as there are good parts all the way, from Dixons Hollow you can mix in some of the black route although some of that is pants and not as good as sticking to the red.If you get tired or have problems there are escape routes to follow to get you back faster.Dalby is well worth a visit no matter what your ability is.

Green is nothing.

Blue is mostly fireroad and a little bit though a field with a fast descent on loose surface fireroad at the end. Good route for plain fitness training (especially hill climb at start) in laps but not really technical. Although theres a small unused quarry-type place near the end (about 1/4 down the big descent) thats good for practicing non-extreme skills without the embarrassment of an audience - unlike Dixons Hollow.

Red route is demanding in places although always ridable on a hardtail if you trust your bike - these are man-made trails designed to be ridden. Be prepared for total novices hiring bikes for the first time and getting in over their heads regarding distance and b*lls. Also people going around the wrong way - especially near the start.

Staying in Pickering October half-term week, hopefully will get a ride in. Are there forest walks, playgrounds and stuff for Mrs REKIBorter & REKIBorter Junior (age 6) to do while I'm off enjoying myself?

yup, loads of walking trails as well as biking trails, don't know if there are any playgrounds though.
