CUSTOM ROCKY MOUNTAIN ALL XTR RACEFACE MAVICS RINGLE Ti BB

chairofpants

Retro Newbie
I bought this 2nd hand in the late 90s in San Francisco and shipped it over. I was told the frame was an 18" hand-build based on a Rocky Mountain, but it's been roughed up to make it less desirable to opportunists and branded CHLIP?. Wheels are Mavic M231 XTR hubs 28F/32R spoke black nipples and purple Ringle skewers. Cassette is DuraAce Hyperglide and probably more suitable for road. Groupset/chainset/brakes are XTR. Cranks are Raceface. Seat clamp, stem and bar Synchros 'Cattleprod'. Specialised Ti bottom bracket and bar ends. Specialised crown with Dave Yates blades. Comes with either XC platform pedals or SPDs and Blackburn rear rack. If you have any Qs or want close ups of particular components mail me. £400 ono or swap for decent road/race bike.

nice kit on that. love the unusual fork. curious what model is it. is there a serial number stamped on the bottom bracket shell?

Rocky rebuild

The crown/yoke is from a Specialized M1 and the legs custom made by Dave Yates. There is no stamp beneath the BB. I was told it was because it was hand-built/modified (call it what you like). If there was one, they made a lovely job of filing it off! (see pic)

could you shrink the dimensions and not the quality when you put the pictures up, they're larger than my 1080 HD screen yet poor in quality.

The serial may also be inside the headtube.

I'm interested in it if we find out the frame .

BB drain plug and brace for anti chain suck guard… interesting

The Mystery of Rocky

Try these images for size. I think I've posted them? I'm still getting my head round the navigation of this site...

if it helps there were some special rocky mountain frames sold on ebay about 12 months ago. sold as new old stock from a canadian bike shop.. can't remember which one now.
from memory the frames were ordered as a special for the shops bike builds..
they were all dark grey and look like your frame.
sorry can't add anymore..

I'm intrigued....

I wonder what's lurking beneath the top coat of paint? From some of the close-ups, it looks as if the original finish has been painted over at some point (hence the 'roughed up' part).

To my inexperienced eye it certainly looks like a Rocky Mountain frame with the way that the seat tube is extended, but I thought that Blizzards had a wishbone seatstay...?

Can I dib it until the end of the day please?
