Right - I'm getting fed up with the current situation over this. Its been politicized to the extreme and is turning into something potentially more damaging to society than the climate change itself.

I dont like Politicians quoting scientific papers as facts and trying to end the argument there and then with these so called 'facts' - nobody can say with 100% certainty what is actually going to happen, who will be affected and when it will happen (if at all).

The climate is changing - Its always bloody changing! Civilized Man has been active on the planet approximately 1 second in the age of the planet. Are we, Mankind, so ******* arrogant that we think we can affect it in such a way?

There are so many factors involved with the earths atmosphere - radiation from the Sun, wobbles on the earths trajectory through space. Comet debris. All these external and totally uncontrollable events affect the atmospheric conditions on earth every second. Impossible to predict, we can only measure and wait.

I am more worried about the headless chicken approach from Government - I am genuinely in fear of what idiotic measures they will concoct in the name 'saving the planet' and the damage to society.

There is so much more to all this but it just makes my head spin thinking about it. Yes, there is far to much excess but there are other ways of reigning this in. Yes, we can all consume less with little effort. Thats piss easy.

What we all need to do is not let a Government that has been 'voted' in by less than 25% of the population commit society to a path that could lead to even more harm than what we are all supposed to be saving future generations from.

Sounds good to me. Gets my vote (if i could vote. But move to much)

When I studied Climate Change and the Environment (which I did for three years), sustainable development was considered the key to long term policy. At some point this got overtaken by jingoistic shite like 'Carbon Footprints'.

The climate is changing, this is an irrefutable fact. The degree of influence human activity has is very debatable. My view is that we, as a species, are over-consuming all of the worlds natural resources at an alarming rate. This combined with the population distribution is causing massive issues all over the world. Frankly, here in the UK the likes of you and I just don't see or experience the real issues we create, they are felt in countries thousands of miles away.

Perhaps it's the complexity of delivering a coherent message on these issues which leads Government to essentially dumb it down. Most alarmingly I recently heard the phrase 'Green Tax' used to describe initiatives for repayment of national debt. I think the media act in a very irresponsible way, and do little except to reinforce the misunderstanding that we all have over what we should be doing.

The greatest misconception is that all these initiatives are to save the planet. The planet will get on just fine, it's Humans who are in trouble. Yes we're gonna take a large number of species with us, but 97% of all species that ever lived are extinct.

Probably seals up the discussion.... Surely no loose ends after that concise and accurate resume.

Is that English sarcasm or Danish pragmatism?

So its Climate Change now instead of Global Warming? Well that seems about right from where I'm sitting BRRRRRRRR:lol:

Then again - it is December

Government warnings on climate change = unlimited tax opportunities

I firmly believe we are a very wasteful society and that we can do one hell of alot ot cut down, its just cheap imports etc make it so much easy to through away, there are virtually no repair shops anymore, but i also don't think we are solely to blame for climate changes, we just aren't helping matters.

Is it true that we are just exiting an ice age?

We're in an interglacial period, it is 20,000 years since the peak of last ice-age which is thought to have ended 11,000 years ago. Although the time-scales are extremely elongated, it's fair to say we're comfortably out of it.
