Used a tip to bring contaminated pads back to life.

Problem i had was i bought some new hope tech X2 brakes, but due to me forgetting to clean the rotors before use i ended up with oil/fluid on the pads rendering them useless.

As replacements were £16 i asked Mr Bain [our local trusted old school bike mechanic]if he knew any way of cleaning them,or were they stuffed completely :?

He tells me to find a blow lamp/torch and roast the pads till the solvent catches fire and burns off. Then use some wet&dry or fine sandpaper to dress them off afterwards.

I sat the pads on top of the cooker[flameproof surface] and got to heating them.It took about 5 mins before they caught fire and the backing plates were red hot.I allowed them to cool slowly then dressed them with the sandpaper, thoroughly scrubbed the rotors using rotor cleaner and put it all back together.
It took about ten mins of peddling then hard braking to bed them in and now they are fine .Plenty of power in the front where needed*

So if you contaminate you pads,a blow torch is the answer :D

*I noticed with 160mF/160mmR there seems to be more chance of locking the back wheel into a skid :? need to sort out the front end so i can run 180/160mm
