Cleaning CK Headset logos

Yes this is a little bit niche and very tarty but .......

The only CK headsets I have had prior to now have been sotto voce ones - well to be precise just the one

I've just picked up a nice red one (non sotto voce) for a build, rebuilt the bearings etc and it looks great with the exception of the logos that are tarnished a little.

I've tried some of my usual tricks, brake cleaner, Cif and whilst it looks like so dirt has been removed (the clean rag got dirty  ) the logos are still less than great.

The anodising is unfaded and in VVGC so I don' want to go crazy with the products and risk damaging it.

Any thoughts?

As ano is so thin any sort of polishing of it will remove it. Even finest steelwool will polish it off so I'd avoid anything abrasive.
Scrub gently for a bit then wipe off with a bit of kitchen/toilet paper. Use a fresh bit each time and check to see if any dirt has has been left on the paper. It might not shift all at once and a bit at a time till the paper is clean or cleaninsh.

One thing I think you should take note of is that the logo will be lasered on through the ano, so any chemical cleaner, ie paint stripper, thinners etc will work on that bare surface and may cause a ragged effect :? Just a thought there.

Maybe just rubbing fairy liquid in with your thumb might be gentler, leave it there for a few minutes to work in.
But I reckon its that bare alloy thats oxidising and thats where the discolouration lies :?

If you do get it cleaner. Might want to consider a clear coat of lacquer over the top to stop it dirtying again.

Re:

I use Duraglit wadding to clean loads of cycle components.

It brings tarnished alloy up a treat, and I have also used it on a Chris King Headset to clean the logos.

Have you tried a citrus degreaser. Cleans things really well, though keep it away from the bearings obviously.
