Just started this new project, '98 Cindercone, was a real mess before the teardown. I'm kind of partial to this generation of aluminum hardtail. This will be the old lady's new ride. ;)

The frame in the picture is a 1999 Cinder Cone in 19".

The 1998 Cinder Cone is Cromoly Double-Butted, and looks like this:


It would also better placed in the Reader's Bikes 1998 --> section

Yeah but it would mean going to that dark place and never get viewed but by a small handful of people

You are correct though; my ultra rare 1998 Kona Ku got lost in that dark place :roll:

Here's the end result, XT V-brakes, XT derailleurs, RC cranks, Mavic SSC's, Bomber fork. Rides very nicely according to the better half.

Great frames! I had one as a singlespeed for many years. It's lighter than an Explosif of the same year.
