checklist for a new bike.?

Re:

well thank you all above - and some nice before/after pics - I'll do some too

TDR - chain yes and poss a freewheel if it's less than a 14-28
I'll hold back on the cables till i've decided on .....

it has white bar-tape - I want black . almost ordered some hoods before the seller said they didn't work with dual levers
yes .. suicide levers are fitted................
so, keep them as per 1980s .. and wrap around them.......
or remove, and add black hoods

nothing bought yet - just biding my time making lists of what to check, need, may buy etc
I've used CRC before for my TREK - good service

LGF --- good points, I'll check cables first

MJ................i'll order some calipers from eBay
no LBS and i'm in the country with no bus route - great but sometimes inconvenient without a car.!... :D

back to browsing mid-80's cataloghues to find my colour scheme
thanks again for the advice...........................john

Re:

one point.................

i'll replace the inner tubes - for peace of mind

assuming the tyres are ok
but they are ''Continental ULTRA Sport''
advertised as
'' An ideal training tyre for road bikes
Special tread design for optimum adhesion, directional stability, and high speed cornering
Steel bead keeps the cost down
Suitable for turbo-trainer use
Constructed from 3 plies, totalling84 tpi
Weight: 310 grams''

a bit too light for bashing around the country roads..?
