Chainset conundrum (modern content)

Hey folks,

My Kona is off having a disc tab brazed on by the good people at Argos Cycles – before taking it in I had to remove the old square taper BB.

Now do I just buy a new BB (SHIMANO UN54 - £10.95) and use my existing cranks (Original STX RC) or go the route of one of these new fangled external BB chainsets like the truvativ firex team? The STX cranks came with the frame so circa 1998 - they look okay but not too sure on the rings?

I need to let Argos Cycles know before I collect so they can (if necessary) face the BB shell

Get the BB shell faced anyway, won't matter if you keep your old set up, but it's ready if you decide to go the other way.

Ditto. Argos will do the head set and BB anyway before painting, but they may need to take the paint off for an external BB.
