Carrera Waikaloa - 1991

[Splatter Paint]

I just picked up a bike which I think is a Carrera, the frame looks just like the one below (belongs to DegsUK) but has a nice purple base with splatter flecks in pink and grey. (Pics at foot of the page) Does this jog any memories? The bike is de-stickered aside from a Reynolds 500 Magnum tubing sticker and a "Titan Oversize Tubing" on the seatstay. The bike is a mix of 400/300LX and DX.

Different year Katmandu maybe? Anybody know what the seatpost size is of the frame pictured? I've PM'd DegsUK for advice.

If its purple then it a waikatoa, sun tour x1 group set, accushift under bar shifters, actually was the x1 with colour inserts.

Had one bitd, and to be honest was a bit shit compared to my brothers specialised hardrock sport and my old fella mf courier comp.

Hate to say it but I left mine at church fete in 1997.......

I've not found anything on the Waikatoa, was is about 90-91 vintage? Hopefully somebody will have a catalogue scan.

my spelling was off

will be a volcano somewhere, could be waikoloa or waikato

my one was way too big for me, it was purchased based on road bike expectations.

the suntour x-1 kit, dia comp levers etc were quite good but the accushift levers were a bit pants

the bars, seat post , saddle, pedals, stem, wheels (hubs/rims and tyres) were toilet, so overall the package wasn't really great.

a good lesson for me - buy cheap buy twice. would have been early 90s

I need a 26.8mm seatpost if anyone has a cheap one? I have a few things to swap.

was a nice frame (no really) , i only got rid of it due to the ribbing i got about it (tit)
