One of the technical guys at Giant actually told me this when I was at one of their launch shows earlier in the year. Saying that I've never greased seatposts if they're made of a non-corroding material, or if they're shimmed, and I've never had any problems.
The Pace (or Finishline) grease is actually an agent that increases friction between the seatpost and the seat tube thus reducing the force needed to keep them tight.
