Carbon Conundrum

This seems to be a commonly held view, but has anyone actually had any first-hand experience of this happening ? Maybe it's just one of those "urban myth" type of ideas......

One of the technical guys at Giant actually told me this when I was at one of their launch shows earlier in the year. Saying that I've never greased seatposts if they're made of a non-corroding material, or if they're shimmed, and I've never had any problems.

The Pace (or Finishline) grease is actually an agent that increases friction between the seatpost and the seat tube thus reducing the force needed to keep them tight.

I am a Techy in a large shop, we use TACX Carbon past on all carbon posts, feels like a gritty paste, it actually allows you to use less torque on the seatpost without it slipping.

carbon post

I have a Bontrager carbon post on my Fisher Cake and when I got it I lightly greased it to help it slip in. That was 2 years ago and I have had it in and out several times since then with no apparent wear or detriment to the post.
