canti rear / disc front breaking true or false

if you run a canti lever with a cable pull disc on front you have reduced braking in front. T/F
a disc gives you greater stopping power than a canti setup. T/F
so a canti rear/disc front with older canti levers should give me equal breaking front to rear T/F
therefore Jonny doesn't go ass over tea kettle T/F

If you run MTB V-brake discs at the front you will find too much leverage and too little cable pull; the lever may contact the bars before the brake is fully on: pointlessly dangerous.
With a road disc calliper it will be perfectly matched.

If you are unable to stop yourself locking the front wheel then practice stopping on somewhere grassy and soft. It's not difficult.

No, the riding is deliberately dangerous and has the advantage of conscious decision making. Braking which doesn't work is in a different league!

This worries me, why on earth would you want equal braking front and rear. Seeing as the front wheel does somewhere between 70 and 90% of the braking work (depending on who you believe)

alternatively you could just pull the (correctly specified) lever less hard?

I've run incorrect levers before, the braking isn't weaker or less powerful. It's pretty shit.

I can only echo what everyone else has said. using the wrong type of lever for the caliper you have feels awful and the braking is dubious.

Re:

thanks for all the replies. good to know the health and safety police are still running the show and the bodge job is frowned upon. sarcasm is sooo hard to inflect when posting. I will be ordering a set of sd 1.9l levers just so i dont, god forbid, have a mushy lever and poor braking performance while i tool around on the local trail, on my 25 year old bicycle, going 5 miles an hour trying to dodge all the teenagers on FS rigs and dirt jumpers. Stay safe.

people do really stupid stuff all the time without knowing better, and they also ask really dumb questions on the internet all the time about doing really stupid things, all because they don't know any better. People try to be helpfull and not have them end up in a big accident.

People don't know if you are being funny or are just a bit loopy and think its a good idea, for all anyone knows you're about to set off on some big descent with dodgey brakes, not pootling around your own back yard

But since you seem happy with the setup you plan to run in the circumstances you'll ride it in, why even ask the question? As you seem insulted by the concern people have for your safety, when they are just trying to help you out.
