Campagnolo retro Saracen picked up for £5

Macp

Retro Newbie
I’m wondering if anyone can help me with some information/history of this Saracen. I picked it up at a car boot sale for £5. The guy clearly didn't know what it was or just didn’t care aha as he originally had it for £10 and I got him down 😂😂

If anyone has any info on the frame that would be mint, also wonder if it is a complete build or if the wheels have been added after production

She’s defo rough and ready but for a 5er I’ll take it all day long

Thanks for future replies

One of these was my first decent bike back in 1982. It was heavily discounted as I believe Saracen were really struggling at that time. They made a comeback a couple of years later (after being bought out by Bluemels?).
Mine was originally spec'd with a Shimano 600 chainset and Tourney mech's. Can't remember the hubs but rims were branded Milremo.
It was a nice bike but I thought the Ishiwata 0245 tubing gave a bit of a flat ride, compared to 531.
For 5 quid you can't go wrong and those wheels are a big upgrade on the originals. Should scrub up nice!

Hi mate thanks for the reply, do you know if the frame is a 82 or older?

Can't say I'm afraid. From memory it looks very similar to mine which was bought in Jan '82 and was the previous years 'model'.

likely due to me yankness am unfamiliar with the Saracen marque

whenever see BOCAMA lugs paired with Ishiwata piping immediately think "Belgium"

are frames produced there and sent to Britain for assembly into cycles, or are frames actually fabricated in Avalonia?

thank you for any information ;)
