Even now, many of the Campagnolo groupsets share the same components - They just vary in the quality of finish or the bearings etc.
So (unless they made a great effort to seal the specific MTB hubs) they're probably very similar hubs to your Athena.
And before there were purpose-made Shimano MTB groupsets, people would mix and match all sorts of available 126mm and 130mm road or touring kit, anyway.
EG: Campagnolo large-flange track hubs were very popular in early BMX. Also, the internals of the Skyway Graphite wheels (hidden behind the gold Skyway hub flanges) were actually Campagnolo Record.
