But apparently we are extremely hard working fellas! And I really haven't got a loads of paperwork to be processed in front of me... And I don't use the "alt+tab" key combination every time someone walks nearby.

it was a dig at people from hull... being in the east of england...which is part of europe. not people from former soviet states etc.

My uncle and grandparents lived in Hull. My grandad had a blue robin reliant that he hardly used and my uncle asked to borrow it for a while...6 months later he returned it completely shagged

turns out he had been using it as a mini cab where he lived..this might sound unbelievable till you realised he lived and drove in Bransholme.

At our local tip it depends on whose in work on the day. Some blokes are no problem and are happy for you to take bikes, even putting them out on the side of the skip. Some others aren't happy to let you take bikes, so you pick your day, preferably Sunday.

I work part-time at a bike re-cycling organisation and last year picked up about 20 bikes which I gave to the organisation, but must admit to keeping a perfect condition Rockhopper for myself. The organisation has an agreement with two re-cycling depots to collect bikes from them, but not the depot near me.

We had some good news this week when a Cash Generator in the next town said it was stopping selling bikes and had 50 - yes 50 - that we could have. That'll keep us busy for a few weeks.

It just happens that I was at my local tip/recycling place this morning dropping off an old but fully working 26" JVC CRT tv. No one on Ebay wanted it, the charity shop didn't want it, even the Rag & Bone man didn't want it after I told him the tv stand that came with it was Plastic not metal.
So a perfectly good but "old" shape TV was left at the tip.
I digress, whilst I was there I noticed a Ridgeback mountanbike in the scrap metal skip, looked half decent, possibly retro, but I couldn't take it, or buy it, or make a donation, it was "council property now" and as such was destined for the great furnace in the sky.

What a waste, on both counts.

In most cases re-cycling centre is a complete misnomer.

I can't see why they can't encourage people to make use of the stuff that other people don't want. As LGF said, they just hide behind H&S regulations. I think there are two main issues: the first is that it would require a bit of extra work, and the second is that they're scared sh#tless of being sued by someone hurting themselves, either at the depot or later using something they got from there.

It really is hypocritical when you see the fuss they make about us having to have four separate containers for household waste. :twisted:

It happens all of the time. Councils hide behind non existant rules regarding recycling. Rules that actually promote re-use as well as recycling get troddon over in the name of equally non-existant health & safety. It needs abig shake up but it 'aint gonna happen anytime soon.

The councils policies on recycling are a joke.Its not about recycling as such more about selling it to recycling companies.therefore if you try to recycle something from the tip the council regard that as stealing from their potential profits. :?
As theyre not interested in the item as an object they see it only in its crushed form.
Take for instance furniture
I have seen plenty of old and near antique pieces in very usable condition.It would save energy to use them as they are but the council prefers them to be chipped instead.

If they cant sell it ,it goes in the landfill.
Havent noticed a drop in council taxes despite them now making money off what theyd normally put in,in fact it still goes up.
