I'm a lucky fellow in that I'm part of a four man group responsible for fixing and maintaining the trails around Copenhagen. It's on a purely volunteer basis and took some lobbying to finally win over the land managers (after years of trying), but permission has now been granted, along with the right to construct small, low-lying bridges and other not-too-difficult technical obstacles (small drops, log rides etc.) The restrictions were as such that nails or non-natural materials were forbidden, making most trail work impossible, but Copenhagen has finally joined the rest of the world in trail improvement and maintenance for the benifit of the users and the forest. Happy days! We've been hard at work the last month getting the first few projects started, and have many more to come. This will be along-term project, but each section is a step to improve the whole trail, and the places we have been are already noticeably smoother and faster (if you choose to ride them faster), with a few elements of challenge thrown in. If you avoid obstacles, at least there's something to look at on the way by, and the chance to imrpove your skills for the novices. We're pretty stoked, and though it has little to do with retro, it has a lot to do with mountain biking. We have a facebook page, so those of you that use it can drop by and check out some before and after shots or some short videos. The page will be partially in Danish and partially in English, so there are things and links to be perused. Happy trails everyone, the nice weather is finally here!
