My frame is circa 94/95, it has a rear canti hanger, I may want to fit V's but not totally sure as I believe Canti hanger = cantis, No canti hanger = V's.

whats your thoughts ? is it just wrong to fit V's to a canti ready frame ?

Cheers

Period correct v's function again really. Canti's are prettier so i put them on bikes that don't get hammered, V's go on frames that do. My Ti DBR has a canti hanger and i'm fitting V's.

i always like to fit cantis if the hanger is there coz i think it looks awful if you leave it unused, just make sure you get some good cantis and it'll be fine! :D

can you saw the canti hanger off?

cantis can look nice, but there crap arent they, fit V's, pimp ones.

I remember loads of my mates bikes from around '95 - '96. Almost all of them had canti hangers, but guess what brakes everyone was running.
How much more retro do you need?

True

Fit whatever you feel is best, you are the person riding the bike after all. Don't be put off by trying to be period correct etc, I would rather have brakes that work when needed any day.

V's on a canti ready frame...

Your ride, you're choice.

I deliberated for a while with my '95 'dale but the decision wasn't too tough as mine hasn't got the hanger so I opted for Cane Creek Direct Curve V's.

Purists will point the finger but having tried all manner of cantis, Onza HO's etc, without much success I reckon go with what works for you.

I've got XTR V's on the Kona, and Avid Ultimates on the Lloyd, neither is period correct but both work.

I keep toying with idea of bunging Canti's on the Lloyd and probably will if I can some find some i want... but I doubt they will stay on it long.

Experimentation is part of the fun, so try them both

Cantis for bikes with a hanger. Vestigial hangers look awful and there's nothing wrong with a properly set up set of cantis.
