Bringing my RC200 out of retirement

Glad you joined here Phil,

check out Raymond Mole's RC100 which he had stripped back to bare alloy...beautiful job...

Get a pair of RC30s on it too....will look awesome...oh and as before, photos will give people a heads up when your camera works again

Just to put a fact straight Pace have never manufactured or retailed Single Speed dropouts for the RC 200 frames

(Adrian always hated single speeds, until now...)

I have and still do have both horizontal and disc brake versions available and have had for around 10 years now

...I even do a geared disc mount for the early frames as well

PM me if you want more info or to order a set :)

So it's you I have to thank for the one on my F6 then?

Anyone still needing one - they are very good.

(Could have sworn I'd seen single speed dropouts for RC303/5 on Pace's website a couple of years back. And the template would be the same as for RC200. But I stand corrected.)

Ok folks, here is a link to flickr - have taken some photo's of the frame.

It's in a pretty sorry state - as I said before it's had a hard life!

I'm sure a proper clean and degrease would do wonders. But if you look at the photo of where the front mech ban was you'll get an idead of what the original finish was.

Opinions on whether it's actually worth atempting to polish and re-anodise would be welcomed. Given its condition it might be best to just to get it covered in a coat of paint (although I'd prefer not to).

Perhaps I should just leave it as it is - an honest reflection of the life its led?

Look forward to hearing from you

Phil

P.s. gil_m you have a pm

P.p.s I contacted Pace about the horizontal dropouts and Adrian confirmed they didn't make them.

I reckon give it a going over with Autosol and the Brasso and you'll get a lot of shine back.

Good advice, I attacked the stripped frame with metal polish and brasso yesterday evening. The shine came back up, but the anodising must have been penetrated as can't shift the black marks. Photo's via the link below:

I think that the finish is good enough to keep it as is - so I'm dropping the idea of re-anodising it. As I said before, it's quite nice to show that the frame has been used.

Gil is supplying single speed dropouts, so the next priority is to find a pair of forks.

I know it's not really retro, but are there any RC31's about with a 1" steerer and short leg length (the RC35's I had on it only had 80mm travel as I recall)? The result would be a nice light chasis.

If not pace forks, any recommendations for solid forks that would suit?

Hope you enkpy the photo's and look forward to your advice.

Ta

Phil

Welcome  , pleased to hear you got the frame cleaned up ok, as for the forks i think Pace frames only look right with Pace forks, 1" steerer RC31 come up now and again or what about fitting another set of 35's ?

Unless someone else has mentioned member justbackdated on here is the man for Pace forks

Looks 110% better.

I brought a Zaskar a couple of years ago that was in a real sorry state, much like your Pace was. After 2 or 3 sessions with the polish it finally came good. Give it another go, and I reckon you'll finish it off perfectly.
