Bringing my RC200 out of retirement

Hi All

New to the site. Rich Mathews at retro pace mountainbikes suggested I get in touch for some advice.

My 1994 RC200 was retired some years ago. Turfed it out the other day with a view to single speeding it.

The silver anodised frame is however very scratched and has lost its shine.

If I can avoid painting it i'd like to. Is there anyone out there who can do a professional re polish and then re anodise?

Also interested to know if anybody manufactures single speed drop outs.

Thanks

Phil

Single speed dropouts should still be available from Pace as a spare part.

(Think it's sacrilege personally but it's your bike...)

Welcome aboard!

Good luck with the restoration.

gil_m on this forum does the single speed dropouts - you should be able to unbolt the ones on your RC200 and replace easily, or you could always keep the originals and use a single speed kit (but this won't look as nice).

On the polishing, post up some pictures with the scratches and you'll get plenty of tips.

There have been some stonking Pace restorations on here. Dr S springs to mind. Have a gander through the reader's wives section.

Oh, and justbackdated is the man for servicing your old RC35/36 etc.

Welcome, there is a thread somewhere here in Retro MTB chat with a chap who had his Pace re-anodised.

Welcome... :D

Would love to see pics of the Pace,

There's a literal plethora of people here that can help with your requests

Thanks for the pointers about who to contact and where to start loooking for info.

At present the bike is stripped to just the frame. The RC35 forks whent on ebay last year.

The aluminium is very dull in places (probabaly damaged by road salt - never did get around spraying the frame with the wax that came with it) with some chunks taken out by the sharks tooth chain catcher (also bent!). I'd forgotton what a hard life it had.

I figure the cheapest way to get it up and running is to single speed it with rigid forks. But opinions welcomed.

Tried to take photo's this evening, but the camera battery died. Will try again later this week.

p.s. looking through here brings back fond memories of my Muddy fox explorer, Saracen Kili-flyer and Orange prestige - awesome bikes all of them.
