Rather than blast the cotton thread through with an air line (not every one has a compressor) suck it through with a hoover, easy!

EDIT:
DAMN IT! BEATEN BY CHRIS!

only by 4 hours .

Oh god I'm an arse! I only read the first page and was so overcome with enthusiasm that I clicked reply before noticing there was a second page to the thread and now everyone's pointing at me and laughing and I will have to go and sulk in a corner full of shame once I've watered the plants in my green house, then the shame can begin.

reminds of someone who keeps getting lost on the road .

Taping the cable works and also using a cable tie, make a loop from a cable tie push in and let it fit round the inside of the tube, slide in the cable and use the cable tie to pull it to the exit. A piece of ribbon also works. You could if you have any slide some cable liner up the old cable too.

I always looped a gear cable inside the tube, fed the other one through and used that to pull the recalcitrant cable out of the other end of your tube.

Just "pretend" you dont want the new cable to find the hole , then it will ..... Sods Law (clever bloke that Sod ) :D ......... If this fails the welding wire method does work.

Does the outer run through the top tube like some of the Raleighs bitd? Is the inner cable seized into the outer?

If the inner isn't seized just do what I do and remove the inner while keeping the outer in place. Thread the new inner and then remove the outer. Cut a new bit of outer and then re-thread onto the inner. Easy.

Otherwise you can put a small bend in the last couple of inches of the inner and then thread it through. Using a torch you should be able to see the cable when it passes the exit hole. When you see it twist the inner until the end comes out of the hole.

Either way should take you no more time than threading a standard frame.

Sewing thread & vacumcleaner is an old trick, hehe... I actyally learned that before I got into Mtb's, having a Conti roadbike w/ internal cabling - about mid 80s...
