Bodge alert! Spindle swapping

Hello,

Simple version of my question: is is possible to swap the spindle from a
126mm hub for a 130mm one? The cones and nuts seem to fit the threads of wither spindle, but I was wondering if there's any other reason this might not work.

A bit more detail: I want to swap a tubular wheel for a clincher, preferably
without rebuilding the wheels entirely. However, the clincher wheel I've got has a 126mm hub - too small for the frame I'm using. I was wondering if it's possible to simply take the wider spindle from the original 130mm hub and put it in the 126mm hub.
I would swap over the cones too - I'm not planning to put cones from one hub in another hub, just to be clear.

I hope that's clear. Thanks for any help.

Should be OK. Adding extra equal width 2mm thick spacing washers each side will ensure the dishing is still central but if you do this, also check that the width available for the cassette remains suitable. If not you may have to fiddle with washers and redish accordingly.

Like Old Ned says it should be fine, you'll just end up with more space between the dropout and the smallest cog on the freewheel. Unless that is you're transferring a wider freewheel from the tubular wheel. Then you might not have enough extra space.....

HUb width

You can also alter a MTB Hope hub by reducing the legth of the spacer and the axle on the non gear side by 6mm..
